The JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Co-Directors MIN Sungwook and JUNG Junho) announced JEONJU Cinema Project Tour, where films from JEONJU Cinema Project will be presented to audiences at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Cinematheque.
Reflecting the JEONJU IFF’s role at the forefront of independent cinema, JEONJU Cinema Project (JCP) is a key industry program of the festival that supports the entire production process of feature film projects. The JEONJU IFF plays a leading role in the production, circulation, and distribution of independent, experimental, and arthouse films through JCP. Before JCP, the festival previoulsy ran JEONJU Digital Project, an omnibus film initiative that invited notable filmmakers to create short films, producing three works annually from 2000 to 2013.
Under the title series TIFF and Korea Story Festival present JEONJU Projects, 5 feature films and 3 short films supported by the JCP will be screened, including works by global auteurs, European arthouse experimental filmmakers, cinephile independent voices, and Korean independent filmmakers. Bringing these films together in a special screening, the program reflects JEONJU IFF’s commitment to independent cinema while underscoring the festival’s distinctive identity and unique role.
For the feature films, Free Fall (György PÁLFI, 2014) will start the screening as a piece that connects JEONJU IFF and TIFF, where PÁLFI’s latest work Hen (2025) had its World Premiere at TIFF. The lineup also includes four additional titles: Afterwater (Dane KOMLJEN, 2022), The First Lap (KIM Daehwan, 2017), Outside Noise (Ted FENDT, 2021), and Three Sisters (LEE Seungwon, 2020). Meanwhile, the short film lineup includes Influenza (BONG Joon-ho, 2004), Worldly Desires (Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL, 2005) and LOST IN THE MOUNTAINS (HONG Sang-soo, 2009).
Robyn CITIZEN, TIFF’s Director of Programming, Festival and Cinematheque, emphasized the significance of this year's selection, stating: “We selected works that build a bridge between the JEONJU Cinema Project and audiences at TIFF. Through this curation, which highlights a rich diversity of cinematic voices, we hope audiences will experience the bold and distinctive artistic identity of the JEONJU International Film Festival.”
The JEONJU International Film Festival has continued to expand its engagement with global audiences by organizing special screening programs at international venues. Past programs have been held at institutions including the Sala Leopoldo Lugones in Argentina (2023), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Spain (2024), the Cineteca Nacional de México in Mexico (2024), and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in England (2026).
Reflecting JEONJU IFF’s efforts to expand its touring screenings, Sung MOON, programmer of JEONJU IFF emphasized, “As our signature program, we look forward to building on this momentum by expanding these touring screenings, ensuring that the creative spirit of the JEONJU International Film Festival resonates with cinema lovers worldwide."
Continuing its support for independent cinema, the 27th JEONJU IFF will take place across Jeonju City from April 29 (Wed) to May 8 (Fri), 2026. Detailed information about TIFF and Korea Story Festival present JEONJU Projects can be found on TIFF’s official website(https://www.tiff.net/).
